While no one is ‘happy’ about the harsh decision, the creators of the initiative were satisfied because they’re already looking for an adoptive family for the baby that has been dropped off, thus preventing him from being left out in the open.
Although there are shelters and family social services, there are some countries that have made an effort to devise other projects related to the protection of those babies who are abandoned by their parents.
There have been known stories where the little ones are abandoned in public places, putting their physical integrity at risk.

One of these places is Okala, in Florida, United States, where a box called “Safe Haven Baby Box” was created, in which mothers who had unwanted children can hand over their babies in a safe way, thus avoiding the risk involved in leaving them on the sidewalks or in front of some institutions.
Although there was initially criticism of this method, Florida authorities announced that a few days ago, the first newborn baby was delivered since the box’s installation two years ago.

According to information from Today, the climate-controlled box worked perfectly when the baby was delivered by a family who couldn’t keep him.
“We know this baby will be so loved by an adoptive family and we are so thrilled to be a part of protecting infants from abandonment,” Safe Haven Baby Boxes founder Monica Kelsey told the media.

The box has temperature controls and an alarm to alert firefighters that the baby has been placed there. “I knew when we did this in 2020, this day would come, we all did, we just didn’t know when. We’re glad it was there as a resource,” said Ocala Mayor Kent Guinn.
Although for the authorities it means a contribution for the city, critical voices have emerged. There are detractors who believe that, with this box, people can deliver babies without parental consent. In addition, they claim that they have “misinformation and unethical practices”.
